Brisbane Poinsettia Plate

Plate: 15.5cm square

The red poinsettia was adopted as Brisbane’s floral emblem on the formation of a Council to cover the whole metropolitan area in 1925.  Native to Mexico, but perfectly suited to the Brisbane climate, the poinsettia flourished in the streets, parks and backyards of the city. This image is from the official guidebook to the capital of Queensland produced in 1940 by the Queensland Government Tourist Bureau.
